Breathwork in Tampa, on the Table

5.0 on Google · 26 reviewsOne-on-one with Deen Ali, Certified Functional Mobility Specialist

Breathwork at StretchOut Wellness in Tampa is therapeutic breathing, taught one-on-one on the table inside every Functional Mobility Technique session with Deen Ali. It's how a braced muscle lets go under pressure, and it's the part you take home. It isn't a group breathwork class or a standalone guided session, and there's no extra charge. First 60-minute visit $70.

Wear athletic clothing, socks are required.

How it works

How therapeutic breathing is taught on the table

1

Notice the breath you're holding

Almost everyone holds their breath the moment pressure arrives, and almost nobody knows they're doing it. Deen watches for it before he says a word about technique. The first instruction is usually the same three words he says on camera: slowly, and breathe.

2

Breathe into the pressure

A muscle you brace against doesn't release. So as the pressure reaches about a five out of ten, never a ten, you breathe in slowly and let a long breath out, and the muscle lets go on the way out. In Deen's words, breathing is how you supply oxygenated nutrients to your muscle. It's also how you stop fighting the hands that are trying to help.

3

Take it to your desk

The breathing you learn on the table is part of the homework. One slow pattern for the morning, and the same one for the moment the tension comes back: at your desk around mid-afternoon, or in traffic on Dale Mabry, where it's been waiting for you all day.

"The reason why therapeutic breathing is very important to us here at StretchOut Wellness: usually when we stress, it could be psychologically or physically, so we train our clients to learn how to breathe, so they can always release the stress out of their body."Deen Ali, from his clip on therapeutic breathing
What the research says about slow breathing
The findingWhat it means on the tableSource
In an experiment with 16 healthy adults, slow, deep breathing changed how the body processed pain and lowered stress arousal only when it was done in a relaxed wayThe breath is slow and unforced. Nobody is asked to perform it, count it out loud or get it rightBusch and colleagues, Pain Medicine, 2012
A review of studies on breathing at under 10 breaths a minute linked it to more comfort and relaxation and less arousal in healthy peopleThat's the pace Deen coaches: a slow breath in, a longer breath outZaccaro and colleagues, 2018
Breathing from the diaphragm helps you relax, improves muscle function during exercise and helps prevent strainThe belly moves, the chest and shoulders stay quiet, which matters when the shoulder is the thing being releasedCleveland Clinic, reviewed March 2022

These are small experiments and a review in healthy adults, not proof of any treatment. They explain why the breathing is in the session; they don't promise a result.

Is this the breathwork you're looking for?

Who it's for

  • You sit for work and carry the week in your neck and shoulders by Thursday
  • You brace, or hold your breath, the moment anything presses on a sore spot
  • You'd describe yourself the way one client did: type A, high stress
  • You've been told to "just relax", as if that were a setting
  • You lift, run or ride, and catch yourself holding your breath under load

What it's not

  • Not a breathwork class, a circle or a sound bath. There are good ones in Tampa, and this isn't one
  • Not a separate booking. It's taught inside every session, at no extra charge
  • Not medical or mental health care. If breathing is difficult or stress is running your life, start with your doctor

Questions people ask first

Breathwork questions, answered straight

Do you offer breathwork classes in Tampa?

No. StretchOut Wellness doesn't run group breathwork classes, circles or standalone breathwork sessions. Therapeutic breathing is taught one-on-one, on the table, inside every session with Deen Ali, and you leave with a breathing exercise to use at home and at work. If a class is what you're after, Tampa has studios that do only that.

What is therapeutic breathing?

Slow, deliberate breathing used during hands-on work so a muscle can let go instead of bracing. In Deen's words, people stress psychologically or physically, so he trains clients to breathe so they can release that stress out of the body. It runs through the assisted stretching, the fascia work and the trigger point work, and it's the one part of the session you can repeat anywhere.

Can breathing really help a tight muscle?

A muscle you brace against doesn't release, and most people hold their breath under pressure. In experiments, slow breathing done in a relaxed way changed how the body processed pain and lowered stress arousal. On the table it's the difference between fighting the pressure and letting it work. That's practitioner experience supported by small studies, not a medical claim.

Is breathwork a separate price?

No. It's included in every session, like the fascia and trigger point work. The first 60-minute visit is $70, half the usual $140. After that it's $140 for 60 minutes or $200 for the 90-minute extended reset. Prices as listed on the booking page in October 2026.

Will I learn something I can use on my own?

Yes. The breathing is part of the homework Deen sends everyone home with: one slow pattern for the morning, and the same one for the moment tension arrives at your desk. It takes about a minute and nobody in the office will notice.

I hold my breath when something hurts. Is that normal?

Yes, and it's the first thing Deen coaches. One client wrote, "I also learned I wasn't breathing!" He asks you to breathe out slowly as the pressure reaches about a five out of ten, never a ten, and the muscle does the rest.
