Trigger Point Therapy in Tampa

5.0 on Google · 25 reviewsOne-on-one with Deen Ali, Certified Functional Mobility Specialist

A trigger point is a knot in the muscle that blocks communication between muscular regions, which is why it can hurt somewhere else entirely. Trigger point therapy at StretchOut Wellness is direct, specific pressure into that knot while you breathe, followed by stretching, done one-on-one by Deen Ali in Tampa. First 60-minute session $70.

First visit is 60 minutes, half the usual $140. Wear athletic clothing, socks are required.

How it works

What a trigger point is, and how it gets released

1

Find the knot that is actually responsible

A trigger point blocks the communication between muscular regions. That is why a knot in the trapezius shows up as a stiff neck, a headache or a shoulder that will not go overhead, and why a tight hip can read as lower back pain. Deen's first job on the table is finding the point behind the pain.

2

Direct pressure, held, not rubbed

A thumb, forearm or elbow into the knot. It is intense for a few breaths, then it fades as the point lets go. Deen keeps you at about a 5 out of 10 and asks you to tell him when you get there.

3

Breathe, then stretch

A muscle you brace against never releases, so you breathe into the pressure. Once the knot lets go, the muscle is stretched through the range it was refusing to give, so the release holds.

"Stretching is not always enough, because there are three stages in muscular restriction: tightness, pain and injury. When you are tight, a stretch can relax you. But when you are in pain, you need to break down the myofascial trigger points, the knots in your body, before you can relax. So you need myofascial release and trigger point therapy plus stretching."Deen Ali, from his clip on why stretching alone is not enough
Is trigger point therapy right for you?

Who it is for

  • A stiff neck, a headache or a shoulder that will not go overhead, when the knot is in the trapezius
  • Lower back pain that is really a tight hip
  • Pain that comes back after massage or stretching, because the knot was never broken down
  • Desk work carried in the neck and shoulders

What it is not

  • Not a massage: the pressure is held into the knot, not rubbed over it
  • Not physical therapy
  • Not a replacement for your doctor. With an acute injury, or a diagnosis you are unsure about, bring their guidance to the first visit

Questions people ask first

Trigger point questions, answered straight

What does a trigger point feel like?

A tender, tight spot in the muscle that often refers pain somewhere else: a knot in the trapezius that shows up as a headache or a stiff neck, a tight hip flexor that reads as lower back pain. Pressing the right point reproduces the pain you came in with, which is how Deen confirms he has found it rather than a sore spot nearby.

Is trigger point therapy the same as deep tissue massage?

No. Deep tissue massage works broad strokes through the muscle. Trigger point therapy holds specific pressure on one knot until it releases, with you breathing into it, then stretches the muscle through the range it was refusing to give. At StretchOut Wellness it is one part of a Functional Mobility Technique session alongside myofascial release and assisted stretching.

Does it hurt?

It is intense for a few breaths, then it fades as the point lets go. Deen keeps the pressure at about a 5 out of 10 on your own scale, never a 10, and asks you to tell him the moment you reach it. Most people feel the difference in the same session, and a little next-day tenderness is normal after a first visit.

Why does Deen keep telling me to breathe?

Because a muscle you brace against never releases. In Deen's words, breathing is how you supply oxygenated nutrients to the muscle, and it is what switches off the brace so the knot can let go. It is also the part you take home: the breathing you learn on the table is the same thing you use at your desk when the tension comes back.

What does it cost?

The first 60-minute session is $70, half the usual $140. After that it is $140 for 60 minutes or $200 for the 90-minute extended reset. Trigger point therapy, myofascial release and breathing are included in every FMT session, never billed as extras. Prices as listed on the booking page in October 2026.
